J. White Did It Facts
With J. White Did It’s parents both being church singers, music had a huge impact on his childhood. However, he had dreamt of being a football player for quite a while. When he was 15 years old, he had realized that he was neither tall enough nor fast enough to actively pursue a career in football.A year later, he had started making his own beats and penning down lyrics and rhymes. The following year, his uncle had purchased him a keyboard. He was immediately hooked on it and never looked back.In 2005, he had moved to New York City to learn how to produce records. There, he had made an acquaintance with a producer named Klenord ‘Shaft’ Raphael who would later go on to become his mentor and manager. Later that year, he had returned to his hometown of Kansas City. For the next decade or so, he had worked there as a janitor, a DJ, and a producer around the cities of Kansas, Dallas, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. During this time, he had produced beats for several artists but somehow his music career was not quite taking off.Things worsened for him in January 2015 when his mother was murdered. The loss had forced him into depression and he had attempted suicide twice that year.In 2016, Shaft had invited him to his place in New York to ask him for beats. It was there that he met future collaborator Cardi B and many of Shaft’s other clients. He began working with them, and eventually, his career began to progress in the desired direction. In September 2017, he had signed a deal with rights management and publishing company Kobalt Music Group.Featured Image by J.
